If you’ve been following our rug adventures, you know we are super-fans of a1000xBetter and love working with them every chance we get. You probably also know it’s not uncommon for their excellent designs to be featured in top design magazines, and the latest in that category is an incredible transformation by a1000xBetter’s Kirsten Blazek of a new build in Eagle Rock profiled in Sunset Magazine.

For this project, Kirsten teamed up with a developer client, which allowed her to imagine the space from the ground up. Breaking with the recent new-build-barnhouse trend, this home is a Japandi gem of thoughtful lines and textures. We stopped by during the project to unroll the perfect rugs that would play with the warm wood tones and cool cement surfaces and create an inviting, comfortable space throughout the home. A few love-worn patterned runners and a gorgeous blush and ivory rug for the dining room did the trick!

Kirsten tells Sunset’s Sarah Yang, “Our leanings as a firm will never be in the contemporary or modern world. So if we do ever have to work in newer construction, I’m always very cognizant of trying to also bring it to a place that feels somewhat authentic to us as a firm within reason. I always design with the thought in mind, ‘Would I be happy to live here afterwards?’ That may be silly, but I always want to do something that I’m happy with at the end and it still feels as authentic to us as it can within the parameters of any given project, basically.” That pretty much sums up why we so love this group of incredible designers and our vintage silk and wool treasures!
