Primary School-ing with Emily Tucker and Blue Parakeet Rugs in Sunset Magazine
This one is for the lovers of bold, bright color out there who are not afraid to paint with nostalgic schoolhouse yellows, blues, and reds. Sunset Magazine recently featured tips from none other than our long-time fave and many-time collaborator, Emily Tucker of Emily Tucker Design, on how to say yes to primary colors in your space.
Written by Kelsey Mulvey with photography by Laura Murray, the piece includes shots of a shiny Corvette-red reading room that Emily outfitted with a Blue Parakeet Rugs vintage treasure. The love-worn Oushak, a primitive 19th Century rug from Turkey, has a velvety lipstick red ground and large scale medallions. The rug brings the mono-red palette to the floor of the room and creates a coherent and intentional space that invites leisure and play.
Red is bold, and Emily is bolder, advising, “You have to be brave…The key is to approach it with confidence—when done right, bold color choices always pay off.” It’s a mantra the weavers of jewel-box rugs have followed for centuries! If you’d like more inspiration to bring primary colors into your space, head over to Sunset Magazine to read the rest of Emily’s tips on how to decorate with the trendy hues.
