Playful Phoenix Bungalow With Blue Parakeet Rugs in Dwell

Dwell featured a home renovation that is guaranteed to put a smile on anyone’s face. A San Francisco couple, Melissa and Jake, decamped for Phoenix and bought, in their words, “the ugliest house in the neighborhood.” Just about one year later, it’s a dream house for adults, kids, and dogs alike!

The couple worked with a local design firm to completely reimagine the home, opening up the floorplan, adding an in-ground pool, and almost doubling the square footage with a basement level that connects to the ground floor with a purple spiral staircase.

But it’s the whimsical and personal details that make the finished home such a ray of décor sunshine: the midcentury modern aesthetic mixed with pops of primary color and vintage pattern in every space, the doggie shower, and the playroom “aquarium window” that looks into the pool, just to name a few.

In the wide-open, sun-filled living room, a vintage tapestry hangs on the wall over a Craigslist blue sofa and a large antique Persian from Blue Parakeet Rugs. A one-of-a-kind rug for a one-of-a-kind home! Check out the whole story and see the full house tour at Dwell.
