Designer Shannon McLaren Shows Off Blue Parakeet Rugs Beauty in Domino House Tour

A rare golden treasure from Blue Parakeet Rugs stole the show in Domino Magazine’s This Designer Renovated Her 2000s-Era “Mediterranean McMansion” in 30 Days. The article by Lydia Geisel details how the designer owner of Prairie Interiors, Shannon McLaren, brought her relentless vision and drive to her own home in a whirlwind of a redesign that looks deceptively, effortlessly beautiful. We’ve worked with Shannon a number of times, and this time was extra special because she trusted us with bringing something unique into her personal home — the ultimate gift!
The winning rug was a particularly stunning and supersized Turkish Oushak. This piece has an ochre ground and a gorgeous, open field with richly aged natural dyes woven with 100% pure Old World wool. Shannon eyed this rug for several months before deciding to make it her own, and we are so thrilled to have brought these two together and loved seeing what she did with it in the pages of Domino.
Shannon has recreated so many homes in Newport Beach, so when she purchased this one for herself, she hit the ground running on turning a confused but solid “Mediterranean McMansion” into 90’s inspired cool: gallery ceilings, muted eclectic decor, and a golden rug to round out her collection of smartly styled living spaces in her home.
