Blue Parakeet Rugs Adorn Craftsman in The Wall Street Journal

A beautiful Blue Parakeet Rugs 1930’s Persian Sarouk shines in a full screen photo above The Wall Street Journal article “How to Brighten Dark Rooms Through Interior Design: Pro Ideas” that also appeared in the print edition.

The piece chronicles designer Jamie Haller’s transformation of a 1912 Koreatown Craftsman house from dated and gloomy to bright and modern. The homeowners, Julia Kramer and Zachary Kaplan, wanted to update the home, which was layered with decades of anachronistic colors and additions, without losing the original details. Enter Jamie Haller, a Craftsman specialist with a famously light touch. Jamie uncluttered the home, salvaged much of the original woodwork and fixtures, and brushed a light, modern color palette over the walls.

When it was time to decorate, Blue Parakeet Rugs staged a Rug N Roll, our in-home shopping experience, to help find the perfect rugs to unite the old and new elements of the home. The first rug picked is the Sarouk that now lives in the dining room featured in the WSJ. We recently returned to help Julie pick out two additional antique rugs, a Mahal for the entryway and another Mahal for the sunroom, featured below. We love working with incredible local designers like Jamie who prize bringing new life to old things, whether Craftsmans or antique Persian rugs.
